A Lake at Sunrise

10 Feb

It’s been a slow weekend of Radio 4, reading and occasional bike rides. Saturday morning’s trip out yielded this beauty – the sun rise over the lake. Sadly it was the most sun to hit the sky and the rest of the day was cloud-covered and cold. Temperatures have hit another low and it’s chilly, not quite minus twenty though, thankfully. I shall try to be more productive next weekend, but I felt like relaxing and lounging round the house. Any suggestions for next weekend’s itinerary?

A Finnish Winter

12 Jan

It’s a beautiful day today – blue skies!

Hello Oulu!

12 Jan

I’m back in Oulu after a long break in the UK, and from blogging. Woops, lazy me! I got caught in a little bubble there and spent the last ten days soaking up as much time with my boyfriend as possible. Leaving him for five months was so hard!

Here’s a quick recap of my experience in Oulu and Finland so far:

  • Moving to Finland – something that I never thought I would do, and right up until my departure I wasn’t sure that I could do!
  • Cycling to Hailuoto Island – One of the longest and craziest bike journeys that I’ve participated in! It led to me making a lifelong friend and seeing one of the most beautiful places in Northern Finland.
  • Getting to Know The University – and the different customs, habits and procedures. I really like it here and feel very comfortable at the university. As an exchange student I’m also really grateful for the level of support that I’ve received here.
  • Study Trips – I’ve seen Oulanka and Norwegian and Finnish Lapland, and for free! Thanks to my department for arranging these!
  • Exploring the Capital – on two trips with two groups of friends, I fell in love with the city and had a blast walking its streets and visiting the museums.

Hope you all had a great New Year! Let’s see what 2013 brings =)

From autumn to winter

30 Dec

This is the same place outside my apartment, first in September then in November, what a huge difference! I’m not sure which I like best, what do you think?

52: Phew!

22 Oct

Okay, okay, okay, I am a BAD blogger. It has been nearly two weeks since my last blog, BUT I have an excuse.

Largely my time has been taken up with classes, lunching, essays and studying at home! I have managed to have a little fun too though.

Here’s what I’ve been up to, in pictures =)

A trip to Oulanka National Park, two days of hiking, delicious Finnish food and fun with my classmates. It was a great experience and I got to spend a lot of time with people who I have classes with daily but never get the chance to chat to. It’s a very beautiful place that I would highly recommend to everyone!

Oulanka was followed by a trip to Pannukakkutalo for some yummy yummy pancakes =) I had reindeer and smoke cheese for dinner and banana and caramel for dessert. Delicious!

The weather turned from this….

…. to this, within the space of a weekend.

I also met my kummi mother for a trip to the local art gallery which was great (although I forgot my camera so I didn’t get a chance to take any pictures!) and the cake was amazing!

This weekend I went to a very international pop quiz at my friend’s apartment, where I spent some time with friends and made a couple of new ones. Yesterday I tried macaroni casserole at my Finnish friend’s house, it was great!

Now I have to face a ton of essays (I’m currently working on five, with another three or so to follow) but it’s autumn break this week so hopefully I will have more time to write.

Hei hei!
